100th Award given in England & Wales!

100 Eco-congregation Awards have been given to churches in England & Wales since the programme began. The first Award was given to Evesham Methodist Church in 2002, and the 100th Award was given to St Thomas' Salisbury. Read more about what St Thomas' did to receive their second Award.
In order to receive the Award, churches are assessed by two local people, one of whom understands the church context in which the work is completed, and one is more of an environmental expert. The criterion is 'significant progress' in weaving environmental issues into three main areas of church life:
- 'spiritual': which can include services, prayers, music, preaching, work with children and young people, or housegroups
- practical: which can include church buildings, church land, and church management
- mission: which can include reaching out to the local or global community - linking our lifestyles to the impacts experienced abroad.
The Award affirms good practice in the church, and is also a way of generating good news in the local community, and demonstrating that the church is taking these issues seriously. It might also be a way of encouraging other local churches to get involved.
