Practical - church buildings, land, and church management:
- Finance & property committee representative actively involved in green group
- Installed low energy bulbs throughout church
- Investigated green electricity tariff in depth.
- Recycling boxes in prominent location in church hall
- Stamp collection for Oxfam at Christmas
- A Fairtrade church – monthly stall at back of church
- Specified native tree for ‘in memoriam’ planting at front of building
- Used small area of church grounds as a ‘reflective garden’
- Checked collection envelopes recycled, and recycle after use
- Church website features ‘monthly promise’
- Carpeted and curtained much of church
- Very attentive to energy bills and meter readings
- Installed toilet bricks in cisterns
- Garden waste taken off-site for composting by gardener.
Mission - reaching out to the local and/or global community with the creation care messge:
- Planting of ‘in memorium’ tree featured in local paper
- Promoted home energy audit project to congregation – two are participating
- Several members belong to local environmental groups
- Prayerfully support ‘Shrewsbury Youth for Christ’ including their litter pick
- Brownies ‘sent a goat’ in 2006
- Several members attend One World Week events
- Monthly Fairtrade stall in church and several members work in local shop
- Collections for NCH, JMA Chernobyl, and Farm Africa
- Church represented and involved in the ‘Shrewsbury Ecumenical Green Group’ a.k.a. ‘EGG’
- Group member has links with World Development
